Human-Centric Designs

Emphasizing human-centered designs through collaboration with architects and designers worldwide, Koray Malhan shapes Koleksiyon Mobilya's global perspective on design while managing the product portfolio in all categories. An understanding of the relationship between spaces and different generations from a human-centric perspective informs his approach to office furniture design. Drawing from a broad range of readings and studies in music, sociology, philosophy, semiotics, architecture, and linguistics, Malhan synthesizes designs that reshape the dynamics of contemporary workspaces. Inspired by Umberto Eco's "Opera Aperta," he developed fluid design concepts over a four-year creative process that provides freedom and flexibility for the ever-changing work culture.

Pioneering the concept of the "Self-Organizing Workplace," Koray Malhan focuses on the structure of workspaces, designing solutions for the evolving needs of today's and tomorrow's progressive, non-hierarchical, and collaborative work culture. His vision revolves around sustainability, flexibility, and collaboration.

Award-Winning Designs

Koray Malhan has received accolades for his designs, including the 2012 Good Design Awards and Red Dot Product Design Awards for the office chair "Gala," co-designed with Gerhard Reichert and Heinrich Iglseder. In 2015, his sofa design "Ikaros," which also serves as a table enhancing cross-functional productivity in the workplace, received the MetropolisLIKES award and The Architect's Newspaper's Best Product Award.

One of Malhan's recent designs, "Oblivion," received the 2016 MetropolisLIKES award and the 2016 Design Turkey Superior Design Award. Addressing the contemporary search for creative spaces within traditional office layouts, "Oblivion" creates special centers for various uses.

In 2022, Koray Malhan, along with Koleksiyon Mobilya's founder -  his father, High Architect Faruk Malhan, received Muse Design and New York Product Design Awards for the Threshold Table and Storage Systems, marking a unique collaboration and recognition for their innovative designs.

The ultimate goal is to propose vital spaces and solutions that physically liberate the body, mind, and hopefully the imagination.
